Wood Secures Major Maintenance Contract for Gippsland Basin Assets
John Wood Group PLC (‘Wood’ or ‘the Company’) has been awarded a significant contract to deliver long-term maintenance services for both onshore and offshore assets in the Gippsland Basin, Victoria. These assets are operated by Esso Australia as part of the Gippsland Basin Joint Venture.
As part of this agreement, Wood will provide maintenance and shutdown support to enhance the operational efficiency of offshore facilities in the Bass Strait, as well as the Longford and Long Island Point facilities. The Bass Strait is a vital component of Australia’s energy infrastructure, supplying approximately 40% of the east coast’s natural gas demand.
Following a competitive tender process, Wood secured this contract, which will commence in January 2025. The company’s involvement will create approximately 250 new jobs in Victoria in early 2025, reinforcing its commitment to supporting the local workforce.
Ken Gilmartin, CEO of Wood, commented:
“We are honoured to be selected by Esso Australia as their maintenance partner for these critical energy assets. Our expertise in integrated operations and maintenance solutions, combined with our strong track record in Australia, positions us well to support the continued safe and reliable operation of these facilities. This award reflects the trust Esso Australia has in our capabilities, our commitment to safety, and the strength of our long-standing partnership.”
This contract follows Wood’s recent five-year extension to continue delivering brownfield engineering, procurement, and construction (EPC) solutions for the same Gippsland Basin assets.
The Gippsland Basin Joint Venture is a 50-50 partnership between Esso Australia Resources Pty Ltd and Woodside Energy Pty Ltd., with Esso Australia serving as the operator.
